Getting A New Garage Door? Tips For Improving Its Curb Appeal

Posted on: 9 November 2018

You may not realize it, but the door on your garage consumes a lot of what people see when they look at your house. While you may think a garage door shouldn't be something special, it should be if you are concerned about the curb appeal of your home. These tips can help your garage door look great so your home will stand out.

Simulate The Look Of Wood

You may want to make your home look a bit more rustic with a wood garage door, but don't want to deal with having a door made with actual wood. Thankfully, you can simulate that look with faux-wood. It can be as simple as using panels for the garage that have a fake wood finish, which will make the door look nice from the street.

Add Fake Windows

Having a little bit of glass can also help improve the look of the garage door. However, you may have some safety concerns with putting glass into the door itself. If you don't want to use real glass, you can always simulate the appearance of glass by putting in some fake glass panels. From the front, it will look like you have heavily tinted glass panes in the door, but there is actually a solid panel behind it.

Replicate A Carriage Door

While a traditional garage door rolls up into the ceiling of a garage, there are variations that open differently. A carriage-style garage door opens outward as if there are doors on hinges, which may not be practical for a garage door, but can make it look more traditional style to match your home. If you want the look of the carriage-style door without the actual implementation of it, you can simulate that look with how the door is decorated. Some well-placed handles and fake hinges and make the door look like the traditional style, but still allow it to roll up with an automatic opener.

Use An Accent Color

Many homeowners select a basic white color for their garage door to match the surrounding trim. You may want to use this opportunity to paint the garage door an accent color that will be bold and stand out on your home. For example, if you have a red front door on your home, you can make the garage door match by painting it the same shade of red. It will make the door look different and stand out in your neighborhood.

Consider these tips if you are getting a new garage door installation.
